Almost always, being thoughtful is being well-mannered. Consideration is just thinking concerning the way the other person feels. Being vulgar to someone is bad manners, not because any one says so, but because it causes upset feelings. Nearly all good manners have in component of common sense. If you are standing in the rear of a jam-packed elevator, it's neither reasonable -nor good manners-to try approaching your way to the front so you can come out first from the crowed. Good manners will help your kid, flourish in social situations.Whether your kid has a severe concern or is just uninterested and tired, you can help it understand that crying and earsplitting will not assist its circumstances. By become conscious that if you treat your kid as if you were speaking to a mature, using simpler wording and examples they can narrate to of course, your kid will older sooner and respect others silence and quite. The rules enclosed individual conduct at home, at school, at play, in the road, at the table and general politeness. School rules accentuate that kids should respect teachers, other students and school belongings. Corrupt, untruthfulness and spinelessness were disheartened at school and play. Manners are much more than just proverb please and thank you. It’s a way of showing gentleness and kindness. Whether we like it or not, people will judge our children on how they hold themselves. It’s much easier to teach good manners while our kids are young than it is to break bad habits when they are older. Voltaire said, “We cannot always necessitate; but we can always speak kindly Manners and respect are always together. Children begin increasing respect for others by first mounting it for their parents. Children should be taught to behave in mannerly ways toward their parents. That means kids should not be permitted to call their parents by their first names, to interrupt adult conversations except in crisis, or to throw crabbiness when they don't get their way. By : Steve Selengut On Wall Street, the incubation period for new product scams may be measured in years instead of minutes, but the end result is always a lopsided, greed-driven, gold rush toward financial disaster. The dot.com melt down spawned the index mutual funds, and their dismal failure gave life to "enhanced" index funds, a wide variety of speculative hedge funds, and finally, a rapidly growing number of Index ETFs. Deja Vu all over again, with the popular ishare variety of ETF leading the lemmings to the cliffs. How far will we allow Wall Street to move us away from the basic building blocks of investing? Whatever happened to stocks and bonds? The Investment Gods are not happy. A market or sector index is a statistical measuring device that tracks the movement of price changes in a portfolio of securities that are selected to represent a portion of the overall market. Index ETF creators: a) select a sampling of the market that they expect to be representative of the whole, b) purchase the securities, and then c) issue the ishares, SPDRS, CUBEs, etc. that you can trade on the normal exchanges just like ordinary stocks. Unlike ordinary index funds, ETF shares are not handled directly by the fund, and as a result, they can move either up or down from the value of the securities in the fund, which, in turn, may or may not mirror the movements of the index they were selected to track. Confused? There's more. these things are designed for manipulation! Unlike managed Closed-End Funds (CEFs), ETF shares can be created or redeemed by market specialists, and Institutional Investors can redeem 50,000 share lots (in kind) if there is a gap between the net-asset-value and the market price of the fund. These activities create demand in order to minimize the gap between the fund net-asset-value and the fund price. Clearly, these arbitrage activities provide profit-making opportunities to the fund sponsors that are not available to the shareholders. Perhaps that is why the fund expenses are so low. and why there are now hundreds of the things to choose from. It is also why a famous 30 stock Market Average has gone up at three times the speed of all the other indicators! Two other ishare/ETF idiosyncrasies need to be appreciated: a) performance return statistics for index funds typically do not include fund expenses. it should be fairly obvious that an index fund will always under-perform its market, and b) some index funds, ishares in particular, publish P/E numbers that only include the profitable companies in the portfolio. How do you feel about that? So, in addition to the normal risks associated with investing in general, we add: speculating in narrowly focused sectors, guessing on the prospects of unproven small cap companies, experimenting with securities in single countries, rolling the dice on commodities, and hoping for the eventual success of new technologies. We then call this hodge-podge of speculations a diversified, passively managed, inexpensive approach to 21st Century Asset Management! How this differs from the roots of the dot.com mess is a mystery to me. Once upon a time, there were high yield junk bond funds that the financial community insisted were appropriate investments because of their excellent diversification. Does diversified junk become un-junk? Isn't "Passive Management" as much of an oxymoron as "Variable Annuity"? Whatever happened to the KISS Principle? But let's not dwell upon the three or more levels of speculation that are the very foundation of all index funds. Let's move on to the two basic ideas that led to the development of plain vanilla Mutual Funds in the first place: diversification and professional management. Mutual Funds were a monumental breakthrough that changed the Investment World. Hands on investing (without the self-centered assistance of the banks and insurance companies) became possible for absolutely everyone. Self directed retirement programs and cheap to administer employee benefit programs became doable. The investment markets, once the domain of an elite group of wealthy entrepreneurs, became the savings accounts of choice for the employed masses. But only because the Funds were relatively safe with their guarantees of diversification and professional management! ETFs are just not the answer to the problems we've experienced lately with traditional Mutual Funds. (Those problems are a function of Fund Manager Compensation, conflicts of interest within Fund Sponsor Organizations, the delivery and pricing system for the funds, and believe it or don't, the self directed retirement programs themselves.) Here's a thumbnail sketch of how well the major Passively Managed Indices have done since the turn of the century: For those six years, the DJIA growth rate averaged Zero % per year, the S & P 500 averaged Minus 2% per year, and the NASDAQ Composite averaged Minus 8% per year! How many positive sectors, technologies, commodities, or capitalization categories could there have been? Go ahead, add in 1999 just to make yourself feel better and you'll come up with +2% per year for the DJIA, Zero % annually for the S & P, and a stellar -1.5% per year for the NASDAQ. Now subtract the fees. hmmmm. Again, how would those ishares have fared? Hey, when you buy cheap and easy, it's usually worth it. Now if you want performance, I suggest you try management. Any management is better than no management, so long as you are receptive to the strategies or disciplines employed by the manager. If you can't understand or accept the strategy, don't hire the manager. During the past six years, there have been more advancing issues than declining ones on the NYSE, more stocks achieving new highs than new lows. Why did you lose money? Sure, you might find some smiles in an ishare or two, particularly if you have the courage to take your profits, and there may be times when it makes good business sense to use these products as a hedge against a specific risk. But please, stop kidding yourself every time Wall Street comes up with a new short cut to investment success. Don't underestimate the value of experienced management, even if you have to pay a little extra for it. Actually, there is no reason why you (and I mean every one of you) can't learn either to run your own investment portfolio, or to instruct someone how you want it done. Every guess, every estimate, every hedge, and every shortcut increases risk, because none of the crystal balls used by those creative product hucksters works very well over the long haul. Products and gimmicks are never the answer. ETFs, a combination of the two, don't even address the question properly. AND their rising popularity has raised the risk level throughout the Stock Market. How's that, you ask? And while connoisseurs will certainly discern between a $5,000 Rolex and a $50 replica, the existence of large number of counterfeits inevitably affects demand at some level The best and most accurate way to tell a Rolex from a replica is by checking its Serial#, Model#, Case back ID, and Movement Signature (the 4 primary verification methods used by professionals) by looking between its bottom lugs (part where the band connects to case), top lugs, and by opening the case back respectively. Clear Casebacks – If you encounter one of these, don’t bother strapping them on. Often times, a replica will have a clear caseback allowing you to see the inside of the watch. Rolex does not make watches with clear casebacks! Engraved Casebacks – Again, with the exception of a rare Ladies model (circa 1990’s) and the “Sea-Dweller” model, Rolex does not engrave any logos or slogans on their casebacks. Moreover, they are free of any engravings. Hologram Stickers – A newly purchased Rolex watch will come with a 3-D hologram-encoded sticker on the caseback. The Rolex “crown” trademark is featured just above the case reference number and can be easily identified when viewed. Often times, a fake hologram sticker won’t even have the 3-D effect when viewed. It is simply a hard, concrete pattern that won’t change in appearance one bit. If this is evident, it is surely a counterfeit Rolex. Date Magnification – All genuine Rolex watches excluding the “Sea-Dweller” features the cyclops that magnifies the date by 2.5x. As you can see in the picture above, the cyclops on the counterfeit is significantly smaller and a bit misaligned. These are common flaws made by counterfeits and you will see many of them today with a larger font date to fool the average consumer. Triplock Crown Seal – This pertains to the owners or future owners of the Sea-Dweller, Submariner, and the Daytona. These three models feature the “Triplock crown”. The image above shows that the genuine Rolex utilizes the extra seal by the rubber o-ring on the winding tube whereas the counterfeit comes with no seal at all. It is also worth mentioning this to be a case by case situation when purchasing a Pre-owned Rolex wristwatch, in which many original Rolex parts or accessories can be replaced by aftermarket parts and accessories. Micro-etched Crystal – In 2002, Rolex began micro-etching the Rolex “coronet” or “crown” right below the 6 o’clock marker. Though it is better distinguishable using a jeweler’s loupe, you can see by the illustration that the genuine “crown” is much more distinguishable and robust as opposed to the counterfeit. By : Dave Kahle Dave, I have read your comments about the value of entertaining, and I agree with you. But, I have a problem. I still find a percentage of customers who keep me at arms length. How do I overcome this attitude from the select few of my customers? What! Not everyone thinks you are great? Alas, it is the salesperson's lot in life to have some customers who just don't want to get close to you. Worse yet, some actively dislike you. How do you handle this? Try something radically different, in terms of entertaining, than what you have done in the past. Create an opportunity for your customer to spend time with you and your spouse/significant other in an entertaining and non-threatening venue. Here's an example from my experience. One of my highest potential accounts was presided over by a middle-aged lady who just did not like me. I spent a fruitless two years trying to make some headway in that account, but was constantly rebuffed. At that time, my company had six season tickets to the University of Michigan football games. When it was my turn to use them, I invited that lady and her husband, as well as one other customer with whom I had a much better relationship and his wife. My wife accompanied us, for a party of six. I know my "cold customer" would not have come, had it not been the one time in her life where she and her husband would be able to see a live U of M football game. It was a glorious Fall afternoon, and we did it right, with a tailgate meal preceding the game, and a several rounds of drinks following the game. Because my wife was with me, it took a little of the edge off the tension that existed between us. As the afternoon moved on, the tension faded away. At the end of the afternoon, we had become friends, with a mutual respect for one another. Business began to grow from that forward, until that account became one of my best accounts. So, option one - try to get them into an out-of-the-office situation where you can come to know one another as people, not necessarily as salesperson and customer. If you can't pull that off, then try plan B. Find someone else in the account with whom you can work. Build relationships with that person and leverage that relationship into greater visibility in the account. Another example from my experience. One of my accounts was overseen by a crusty, irritable older man who told me, the first time I called on him: "We have too many vendors now, we don't need another one. And, while we don't know much about your company, what we have heard we don't like." The next few times that I called on him, he lied to me repeatedly. I decided that I was not going to get anywhere with him, and found some other people within the account upon which I could call. I was successful with them, and gradually built the business until I was the largest vendor within that account. The older man's attitude slowly changed to the point that he and his wife accompanied my wife and I to a Tiger baseball game. At the end of the evening, his wife took me aside, and, with tears in her eyes, thanked me for the evening, saying that "No one has ever done this for him before." So, plan B. Go around the person, building relationships with someone else. Now, if those two strategies don't work, then console yourself with Kahle's rule number one of sales: You don't sell them all! Plastic gift cards are the latest innovation in vouchering to hit the UK high street. A plastic card is issued in place of vouchers. When a customer wishes to buy a gift card, he chooses whatever value he chooses to put on the card - eliminating the need for cards of various pre-printed denominations. The value is held on a central database, not the card, and is only activated at the time of payment. A gift card scheme has various benefits for retailers - mainly in the areas of cost reduction due to the elimination of the need for secure handling and fraud/pilferage.
